Brian and I can look back to the point where we began devouring books. We were both about the age that Sarah is now. When I find Sarah reading, it warms my heart. It brings back memories of slower times in my life when a good book could carry me to far off places. There were times when I was younger that I would spend the whole day reading! O the good ole days:)
Anyways, Sarah is just finishing up HuckleBerry Finn. I am looking for suggestions for a book series for her. She is thirteen and loves adventure. As you could probably guess from the book she is reading now, she is not really into girly, girl books. She has read most of the American Girl books as well as Anne of Green Gables. We would love some suggestions. Please let us know if any come to mind.

OK, everyone knows that I am not the "Girly" type I too like adventure and not all Love and Romance. That is why I am going to suggest The Ultimate Hichhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It has the adventure, a plot that draws you in and it is easy to imagine that you are right there in the book. It is nothing like the movie (that should not have ever been made) some classics should never make it to screen.This is of course 5 novels in one but I finished it in one week and I don't read that often.
I have a copy if she wants to borrow it. The only thing that might be Questional is one scene he is in a pub having an ale talking to a friend and thats in the very first chapter.

Oh yea!!! A place where I have some expertise---I'm a former church librarian. All of these books you can get at christianbook.com and most you can get cheaper when you buy a whole series.
I HIGHLY recommend the Christian Heroes; Then & Now series. It's real stories of missionaries and leaders. Very good.

Who knew Becky is like an encyclopedia. Has she read The Chronicles of Narnia. They are my FAVORITE. I read them at least five times growing up.

Has she read the Mandie books? You can get them from the church library. I am not sure if she is a little old, but I loved them when I was growing up.

I was going to say the same thing as Mindy...I LOVED Nancy Drew!!
Well, when I was growing up, I loved the Mandie books and I see that a few people have said the same thing. I could not get enough of them! So anyway, I just wanted to let you know, I have sent some to Sarah. I hope that she enjoys reading them. There are many in the series, and it's for ages 11-14 I think, or somewhere around there. Good that she is reading, that is so much better than a lot of other things that she can do with her life! Obviously you have done a good job raising her!

Remember the series that you suggested for Little David about 8 years ago? "The Adventures of Nathan T. Riggins by Stephen Bly turned out to be a very well written series of books about a boy and a girl in the early settling of the west. Good action and plot, with great Christian values.
My favorite was "Coyote True."
